Materials & Process Engineer at Ducommun in Gardena, CA
Ducommun is seeking a hands on aerospace material and process engineer to spearhead its composite development team. The responsibilities include overseeing technical activities of new and existing projects, supporting new business development, documenting processes and procedures, ensuring technical excellence.
Essential Functions:
This position requires an individual with strong technical knowledge related to the field of composite fabrication, foams, honeycomb structures and bonding. This individual needs to have a broad M&P experience including test methods, failure analysis, proper material handling, material and process selection and validation. Hands on experience to solve process related issues and find the root cause/corrective action is essential. Identify and validate material and process capability improvements Author and execute material test plans Review test data and undertake post-testing activities including design allowable calculations, equivalency determinations, and failure mode analysis Write and review Material and Process specifications Participate in the development of new products and recommend solutions Provide technical support to the Material Review Board Recommend rework and repair solutions Ability to solve practical M&P problems Participate in quote activities Support the training programs to enhance the knowledge of technical staff Work as a team with the quality department to address technical issues Conduct analysis to solve problems and reduce product bond assembly costs Familiar with mechanical and chemical testing of composite assemblies Recommend alternate materials and be familiar with polymer chemistry Perform failure analysis Carry out experiments to enhance the company's technological understanding of material performance Skills & Qualifications This individual must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree. Master degree in technical and business field is a plus. Also requires minimally 5 years of experience in Material and Process engineering. Must possess excellent communication (technical, Oral, Written). Must possess excellent technical judgment and able to set logical action plan for design challenge and technical problem resolution. Background in material science & chemistry is a plus. Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma is a plus.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
